I just received word that I have been accepted to BERKLEENYC @berkleenyc for their one year masters pro

GOOD NEWS: BerkleeNYC is a GO GO GO!

In March of 2021, Michael was accepted to BerkleeNYC for their Musical Theatre Writing and Design MA Program starting in September. This intensive one-year curriculum offers progressive training and state-of-the-art technology and facilities at the world famous Power Station Recording Studios, with Jonathan Larson grant recipient Rona Siddiqui at the helm.

Premiering at The 2021 Boulder International Fringe Festival

Michael O’Dell (Composer/Lyricist) and Davern Wright (Playwright) have been commissioned to write a one-act song cycle! WƎIЯD chronicles the lives of high schoolers navigating the effects of a 2020 turned upside down while steering into an unsure future. How do they cope, sort out, and navigate what is happening while making plans for the rest of their lives?

Inspired from the creative team’s in-depth interviews with the actual students. WƎIЯD draws inspiration from their lives to present a contemporary, funny, and heart-felt work of new theatre.

NEW MUSICAL!

Last Night on Earth is a musical comedy that takes place in NYC during an evening when a comet is supposed to impact earth. This fast-paced, exciting story and contemporary score focuses on a group of newly formed friends who befriend an Uber driver and go through their last day together. Premiering in 2022.

After successfully pitching this musical at New Musicals Inc.'s July 2020 “Pitch Conference,” for the last four months I have been working with NYC’s Show Shephard’s Matt Schicker and Blair Russell (Tony Award Nominee for A Slave Play) as they have been coaching me on formulating a concise, effective story for the stage. Still in the script development process, my goal is to produce a well thought out script before a score is written. The goal is to be finished with the book by March, with composition of the score following.
