Stud Country Shuffle is a new country-funk musical about a Queer line dancing hall in Atlanta, Georgia – The House of Donna. When the House of Donna is threatened by foreclosure, a team of young queer line dancers must save the hall, even if that means partnering with the traditional line dancers who want to buy the dance floor from under them. Things get even more complicated when Ari, the niece of the House of Donna’s owner, starts to fall for Shayleigh, the closeted leader of the Bootleggers who want to buy the dance hall. Can these two dance troupes learn to shuffle together and step up to save a beloved dance hall? Stud Country Shuffle is a joyful romp through line dancing culture while grappling with themes of identity, desire, and acceptance.
Stud Country Shuffle was written and workshopped at Theatremakers Summer Intensive at the National Theatre Institute in July 2025 and is an official selection of the Spark Musical Theatre Festival this November 2026.
